As a health care provider you may have questions about how to help patients find affordable medical coverage. Washington State has state-sponsored health insurance programs for low-income children, pregnant women and adults. Other resources are available to help patients with medical costs such as prescription assistance

Check a patient’s eligibility for state-sponsored health coverage

  • Use the Benefit Finder The Benefit Finder screens patients for:
    • Apple Health for Kids (Medicaid, S-CHIP)
    • First Steps (Pregnancy Medical Insurance)
    • Family Medical (Medicaid for families with dependent children)
  • Call the Family Health Hotline 1-800-322-2588. One call to our bi-lingual staff connects you to state-sponsored health programs and local resources throughout Washington. Call center staff are highly trained in state program eligibility guidelines and are happy to work with providers to help uninsured patients. Call center staff can serve any language via the AT&T interpreter line.

Are there other options if a patient is not eligible for state-sponsored benefits?

  • For prescription assistance Washington State offers two programs to help patients pay for the cost of medicine:
  1. The Washington Prescription Drug Program is open to any Washington state resident. Learn more about the program and enroll online to get the discount card. You can also call 1-800-913-4146.
  2. Rx Help for WA is a program that helps low-income, uninsured Washington residents get free or discounted medicines. Learn more about the program. You can also call 1-877-923-6779.

Local Resources:

  • The Resource Finder allows health care providers to find local services for a patient using a zip code and keyword such as prescription assistance, low-cost medical clinics, childbirth classes and immunizations.
